Fallon Rowe, climbing one challenge at a time

Inspired by rocks, again – with Fallon Rowe

Fallon Rowe

Fallon Rowe in seriously into rocks. Climbing is centric in her life, so she brings climbing analogies into her teaching and personal life. Years as a scientist and teacher (including teaching high school geology) has proven her intelligence about human nature and how we interact with one another and the world around us.

Approaching life with Stoic philosophies has helped Fallon view a problem with a curiosity and problem-solving mindset rather than dwelling on what can’t be changed. She tells us how she takes the principles of Stoicism and puts her all into whatever she does in life, finding the enjoyment in it. Her awareness and support of both her present and her future allows for a balance that goes back to the curious approach to changes and challenges.

Fallon touches on climbing with chronic illness, finding a lack of knowledge and information to guide her. The Stoicism she applies to life has been instrumental in allowing her to be the one setting an example for perseverance and testing the limits. As she says, “If you don’t see it, you need to become it.” Becoming the example she wishes she had, she has recently written an article on climbing with POTS, and is involved in a community of recreational climbers with chronic illnesses, becoming a mentor to encourage others to push, explore limits, and find what works for you.

Along those same lines, Fallon has coached and is a climbing guide, which rounds out her hard-earned skills as a climber, educator, and her desire to be a mentor in the climbing industry. Even in our conversation she defines some climbing terms for us and gives us a picture of the climbing world.

A lead climber in every sense, Fallon inspires us to look closer at the rock climbing world, understanding ourselves, and our approach to any problem. We’re grateful for her insight and excited to see how she continues to fulfill her goals as a mentor, athlete, educator, and human.

Also, we encourage everyone to look into modern Stoicism as an approach to living life well.
